Immanuel Episcopal Church

Immanuel Episcopal Church is a congregation in the Episcopal Diocese of Vermont, The Episcopal Church, and the worldwide Anglican Communion. Services take place at 8 am (quiet service) and 10 am (with music) every Sunday morning throughout the year. Visitors are always welcome. We are served by two priests, The Rev. Steve Fuller and The Rev. Bruce MacDuffie. Communion or Holy Eucharist takes place at both services every Sunday except sometimes during the summer when our priests take time off and lay leaders conduct the services.

The congregation embraces Baptismal Ministry. Every individual is a minister at Immanuel. Every individual is called and empowered to serve as God's agent by virtue of their baptism. Our members serve as parents, school teachers, truck drivers, counselors, nurses, secretaries, and factory workers.  Thus, the mission of Immanuel is to celebrate God's inclusive love as expressed through Jesus Christ and embody it in the world.

The church building was designed by one of America's best-known Gothic revival architects, Richard M. Upjohn. The wheel-chair accessible building is a perfect example of the French country Gothic style of about the 14th century. The fish scale roof, with multi-colored bands of slate, is typical of the Victorian Gothic style of architecture.

Buried in the adjacent churchyard is Hetty Green, once reputably known as the wealthiest woman in the world, and who was often called "The Witch of Wall Street." Other markers in the beautiful cemetery grounds honor Civil War heroes and those who played an important role in the history of Bellows Falls.
